Had a little time the other day so I jerked the plate off and stuck an old flatbed that I had laying around on it.

While it was in the shop, I wanted to do something about the lack of a floor mat. Since a new repop obviously isn't available and NOS is too spendy and hard to come by, I decided to make my own thinking it shouldn't be too hard since there is no hump in floor like pickups have.

One $37 3/4" thick horse trailer mat later and I have a floor mat.

While I still think it is a great idea, there are a couple problems.

1) Getting it in the truck was the hardest workout I have had in a long time. Trying to wrestle a 100 pound wet noodle into the cab of a really tall truck and trying to snake it around the steering wheel and three shifter levers proved to be quite difficult.

2) Being 3/4" thick, it really isn't overly flexible. I'm hoping that some 100* days this summer will help it lay out to the floor board a bit, but I'm a little skeptical of whether or not it actually will.

Personally I like it better with a nice long trailer and a load on it. lol But the flatbed looks good! How'd that 351 pull?

Poor. lol On flat ground I couldn't get out of low range. A tiny little incline would drop me right down to second or third in low range. But once you get to first and low, it will pull anything at just a little less than walking speed.

That's not bad considering the load and only 351 cubes though. If it had a 478 it'd a done way better. Big rig needs a ton of cubes. I'm still surprised at how well my little 305E tows. lol Course....10K is like a tenth of what That load weighs!
