Flywheel Replacement
So I removed my clutch, flywheel, and bell housing. The teeth on the flywheel are buggered up a bit. Do you think I should find a replacement? Rockauto shows a replacement from AMS AUTOMOTIVE 167654. Not sure if this is correct though. Here is the damage. Thoughts?

Re: Flywheel Replacement
I have a spare one and will check it to compare teeth. I think yours is pretty bad. Is it evenly chewed all around? Do you think the starter pinion did that or a bolt that came out of bell housing and rubbed? Because it seems only on the edge, but I can't really tell.

Re: Flywheel Replacement
Thanks Ken. Its not all the way around, maybe 1/3 chewed up. Only on the starter side, so I assume that is what caused it. I guess I should consider a new starter too.

Re: Flywheel Replacement
Amazon has them almost as cheap. Maybe cheaper if you have prime. Calculate both with ship. I would buy Amazon before Rockauto. I don't like them anymore. That's another story.
What do you mean "only on the starter side"? Meaning starter not engaging far enough you think? I guess motors stop in about the same places so that's why it's only 1/3 of diameter. F/W's are pretty cheap so that's good. Starters may be hard to find but a new starter drive (I call Bendix) is available for your starter at Amazon also. Re: Flywheel Replacement
The hole in F/W slip over a guide diameter, right? The pilot is in the crank end.

Re: Flywheel Replacement
Hmmm, not mine. The pilot bearing is seated in the center of the flywheel.

Re: Flywheel Replacement
you are correct I just went out and checked my spare. Amazon has 167654 listed also. Picture shows same big hole. Wrong pic or vendor does not know what he/she is doing.

Re: Flywheel Replacement
Yes, I went to the AMS site, and it specifically states 167654 is for GMC 305 V6? Wrong pic though. Very suspect. http://www.showmetheparts.com/ams/
I call tomorrow. If they are wrong, I'll let them have it. |

Re: Flywheel Replacement
I wrote to RockAuto and told them to confirm vendor has wrong pic. I told them several members of my "Club" are going elsewhere. Afraid to order and have to send back.
I think the bigger V6's have a big hole. Last edited by AZKen; May 5th, 2016 at 07:21 AM. |
