reproduction parts.
So I realize that most of the world does not have access to good old rigs to grab parts from. And those catalogs and vendors are a necessity and not a curiosity. And my only experience is with rubber door and window stuff. I know this is a topic that gets talked about all over but I would like opinions on anything you all have bought and used.50's -72 . Re: reproduction parts.
The Bad:
1) Reproduction door checks are no good. 2) The rubber boot for the 4spd manual transmission is too tight around the shifter so it cracks. 3) Deluxe heater seal kit has pieces that do not apply - so only two usable parts. 4) Hood bumper set contains two bumpers that are not usable on our trucks. 5) Rubber glove box bumpers do not fit. 6) Front fender inserts (in front near headlight area) are spot welded in place haphazardly. 7) Door seals did not stick to new paint job even with 3M glue. 8) Door whiskers are too thick not allowing window to go all the way up without extra effort. 9) Repro washer bottle cap does not fit OE washer bottle. 10) Repro washer bottle bracket does not have correct mounting base. 11) Aftermarket headlight switches fail prematurely. 12) 4spd tranny seal between hump and tranny is wrong shape and way too thin. 13) Federside taillight bulb sockets & wiring The Best In My Opinion: 1) Fenderside front bed panel 2) Reproduction front parking light wire harness 3) Glove box liner 4) GMC Pauls 67-72 door gasket set 5) Engine wiring harness for V6 |

No Barry - with three young kids and my own business even my one old truck gets neglected.

Re: reproduction parts.
Hey guys,
Got a few aftermarket parts some good others not so good. Here's some examples: 1) Brothers ignition cylinder is exactly as original, works great. 2) LMC replacement battery tray fits good and works ok. 3) Classic front fenders are bad, they look good but the fit is really bad. Repaired originals and going with them. 4) Golden state rocker panels fit good, took very little work to fit them. 5) Performance on line dropped crossmember fits perfect. |

Re: reproduction parts.
Good thread,
I don't buy tons of aftermarket parts but have never really had any substantial issues with any particular vendor. I bought all new brake parts for my '55 GMC 3 or 4 years ago using Rock Auto for the drums and shoes. Master and wheel cylinder rebuild kits came from LMC as well as all of the cables to replace the old frozen up emergency brake stuff. All fit fine and still work great. Both Door glass and one wing window from LMC for the '55 fit and look fine. Gauge face decals, and a bunch of misc rubber components like clutch and brake pedal pads from "The Filling Station" all fit and look fine, great service. Only small issue was door latches for the '55 from LMC. There was a "tab" on them that needed to be cut off for some reason and they have worked great for a few years now too. I also have an upper grill bar and a front bumper for my '70 Jimmy from LMC, they look identical to the originals but they are not mounted yet to know if they will fit right. I know there is more but can't think of it right now. I have been buying a lot of parts and tools from Amazon lately too, for the wife and kids drivers. Everything has been fine so far, probably a couple thousand bucks in the last year. Glad they are paying for it!. DAC
