Default 305 V6 into a 1950 Chevy 1-ton?

My 63 GMC is sitting in need of severe body work, in the mean time I was wondering if the 305 V6 will fit into a 1950 Chevy 1-ton Panel truck? I have the truck and it has a 235 L6 in it now and I want to keet the GMC motor fresh by running it often. The mount for the L6 is in the front and on the rear belhousing,I belive the trans. Would the V6 fit and what mods would need done. These Chevy/GMC trucks seem to be very popular with V8 in them and I'd bet a V6 big block would almost look natural. Any ideas please comment. Thanks, Jeremy Cooper Winchester, Va. 1963 GMC 1-ton Panel/1950 Chevy 1-ton Panel/1963 Chevy Impala

I have never seen a V-6 swap in an AD truck, but I like the idea very much, and I hope you decide to go through with it. The V-6 will "fit" in the same way that a V-8 does. You will have to deal with the exhaust/steering interference issue, but that's the only major challenge.

Some V-6 engines used a single point front mount below the timing cover. If you can find one of those, it should be the easiest way to mount the front of the engine. For the rear, you will need to fab brackets to adapt the GMC mounts to the Chevy crossmember. The Chevy transmission will bolt to the GMC bellhousing and its input shaft will fit the GMC clutch.

No 6 volt starter is made for the V-6, so you will have to convert the truck to 12 volts if you haven't already done so. The other mods needed are routine engine swap stuff like throttle linkage, wiring and plumbing.

Good luck with it, and please keep us posted on how the swap is going.

Ray

Coyoterun put a V12 in a 50's truck.

Of course it's not the same, but it's a great look around a bbv6. I hope you do it too. Take a few measurements and see what you think.

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.
