Default 17.5" Wheels

I cribbed this from a craigslist link on the 67-72 site. Mighty interesting. What anyone know about this size wheel/tire? I wonder if the tires are a problem as the truck right now wears 16". Were they replaced with the 16.5 size in 1969?

1969_CM2590D, these were an optional upgrade I believe for HD towing and campers; stuff like that. They also came in 19.5's and those are tough to find.

The tires are still available but pricey. It's just easier to source the 16" tires. My 70 and 73 both have 16.5's and I've not had issues with the tires except for one blow-out.

Thanks for the photo. those wheels are whoppers!

Anyone have an idea what a fair price might be for a full set of the 17.5"?

The ad has the truck on 16's, so I reckon it's either it's preservation or the tires cost way too much for them to use everyday.

There was a CL ad with a set of four 17.5's rims only and this style cap(s) about a year ago for $350.
Cap is a wider and taller version then the photo.

Yes the HD upgrades you had: 17.5, 18.5, 19.5 sizes available.

My truck came with the optional 19.5 rims as ordered by the Canadian government when they ordered the truck new. The guy I bought the truck from... THREW THEM ALL AWAY AT THE DUMP!!!!!!.... about 10-15 years ago because he said the tires cost too much!!!
So he got cheap 16" rims and tires and all those rims are lost forever!

I have had my truck for over two years and it still shocks me when I think about that!

What about the truck in your picture here, is that your current project?

Hello Quest! That truck with the 19.5's belongs to a tire shop owner who will not part with them separate from the truck. He wanted $2500 truck. A lot of purist's people looking for those 19.5's. so be on the lookout everyone.
