Default fuel pump pressure question

Greetings All, My original fuel pump gave out on my 305. I want to install an electric pump temporarily as I must move my truck to a new location. Does anyone know the psi necessary for the 305 so that I purchase an the right electric pump? I will look later for a proper manual replacement pump. Thanks in advance. Lee Wengrzyn in Lehigh Acres . Hello Mr Lee,

I'm using this Carter 4070 model now; puts out 6 psi and you know when it's running. I have a Holley 500.

But they do sell the cheaper Mr. Gasket electrics at the AutoZone that may get you buy.
How far are you moving it and what carb do you have?

Thanks for the reply. I'm only moving my truck 20 miles as I must put it in storage for awhile. I have the original carburetor on the 305 and up to this pump problem, everything ran great. I've considered going to the Holley to better the current 10 MPG but I have no plan to do so. It already has dual exhaust. My GMC is 1964 and has a camper that I use within the borders, so far, of Florida. It's a great machine. A parts guy at Autozone told me that a lower psi was better for this truck as it is old but I have no faith in counter guys unless I know they are good mechanics. They sell an electric that is 4-7 psi and a more expensive one rated 5 psi. I don't know.

MrLee, my manual calls out for 5-6 psi on the factory pump.

Thanks. I'll get the better pump at 5 psi.
