Default How many GMCs came with a V6?

This is probably not the best place to ask this question but I am new here and trying to learn. I am trying to find out how many 64 GMC series 1000 pickups came with the 305 V6 any help will be greatly appreciated.

Greetings Paul!

I could be wrong on this, but I assume that all Series 1000 GMC pickups from 1964 were equipped with the 305 V-6 unless the truck was specifically ordered with another engine option such as the Chevy inline 6 cylinder engines. To someone in our forum here, am I right on this assumption, or was I misinformed from the word go from information I gathered from GMC's ads about the marvelous new truck engine first introduced in 1960?

Pretty easy to check our maintenance manuals. My 1960 lists only a 305A for 1000 series with no option mentioned. Other models in 1960 had standard or optional 270, 305B, 305C and 351.
The only drivetrain options mentioned for 1000 are Clutch, Transmission, Front Suspension and Rear Axle.

For the first time in the run of the 60-66 GMC trucks a 230 inline six was offered in a step down option called the I series in 1964, so it would have been an I-1000. The 305E trucks were 1000 series.

Thanks for the information but I would still like to be able to find out how many were made with the 305e engine and or how many series 1000's were made. I am having my 64 series 1000 restored now will have to post pictures when I get it back.

I am also having trouble trying to decode my vin # I keep getting an error message when I put it in the vin decoder. My vin # tag says GMC TRUCK DD
1002 P F1C88CA I would greatly appreciate any help decoding this, the tag is on the rear part of the cab door opening toward the top.

Look at the vin tag again...there seems to be an awful lot of letters in there. Should be something like this 1502HF1643B....less letters and more numbers.

I was able to figure out what your vin meant though.

1002: GMC 1000 with a 127" wheel base.

P: Pontiac, Michigan plant.
F: 64-66 series
1C88C would be the Serial Number...that's the part that's wrong...it should be All numbers.

A: 6000 pounds or less GVW.

If I'm not mistaken, something similar to your request came up quite a few years back. There are no records that can be found on how many trucks were produced in that era.
