Pcv, egr, wth?
It looks like the PCV valves are directly in to a single intake port per head?
I can't help but think that pot is going to get extra oiling and run fuel-lean? EGR wasn't around for these? Seems like a big engine in a lighter truck could gain some mileage and/or reduce detonation/heat tendencies? |

Considering the last year V6 engines were available in pickup trucks from the factory was 1969. EGR valves came around 1972. Bigger trucks equipped with V6 engines from 1972-74 didn't need to meet emissions standards requiring EGR valves.

This also brings up that GMC dealers were setup to install V6 engines in pickup trucks if a customer requested this option from 1970-72. In 1973 that option was dropped, emissions could have been the reason.

Under the valve covers on my motor, there are "PCV" style components. One for each head. Allows venting of crankcase. These are not in the intake manifold. Depending on year, the 305 had draft tube and filtered breather can, PCV/air cleaner combo. Valve cover breathers......... don't know what you are talking about or asking for sure. It's nice when someone gives the year and the motor size when posting. I don't see any answers to a question you had. But I don't know what the question is? Fuel economy? Detonation reduction? Lean condition problems? Are you talking about the Ebay motor I got you? You are welcome.

To clarify,,, I see the PCV valve location, but can't tell where they lead. Quote:

I got sidetracked by a similarly robust inline IHC Red Diamond for a while, but always have watched for a 432/478, had sorted a few different upgrades based on dimensions posted here and around. Bigger valves, longer rods, offset stroker, lighter pistons, cam regrind, that kinda crap. I just need to get it home, apart, and sonic checked/magnafluxed to see how best to proceed. .060 over and 4-3/8 stroke would be 554ci or 10ci bigger than my RD's 4.530x5.625 I'll see if it's reasonable to adapt a 4.3 V6 TBI setup, with my worked 454 TB, to run on it. |

When I was in the market to buy my first new truck in 1972, I got quotes from both a Chevy dealer and a GMC dealer. The Chevy would be a short wide half ton four wheel drive with a 350 V8. The GMC would be similar but with a dealer-installed 351 V6. Unfortunately, the GMC was much more expensive so I went with the Chevy instead. Two years later it was stolen and I never saw it again.
