Default Heat riser

Hello all,looking to put a new exhaust on my 61.Does anybody know if you need the heat riser or can you eliminate it ????? mine is frozen open. Thanks

You can get by without it. But if you live were it get's cold like in the north, north east you might want that heat riser. I tried driving without it and it was OK for wail. But after I put one in it ran a lot better. By the way I live in North Carolina. Ross.Hodges
