Default My new "find" - 62 K1000 big window short wide

Hey everybody - no, I'm not dead, just been distracted for about a year and not on the board, but I've been busy with a couple new 6066 GMC knee-knocker buys so I want to show you this one since there are a bunch of factory 4x4 fans on here.

I don't know a lot about this truck yet as I only just discovered and bought it, and still have to drive the 10 hrs one way to go after it sometime later this month. What I do know is what made me want it - its a real, untouched 1962 K1000 short wideside all in-tact in hard to find Strata Blue and actually came with a big back window if you can believe it. I personally have never found or even seen a K1000 or 1500 with a big window that I can recall seeing, although I am sure there some among all of you. I'd love if you guys would text me pics to 256-486-1988 of your 60-62 K1000's and 1500's since I am soaking up info about the early ones now.
Truck has the original 305 V6 and presumably a D, and you'll never believe this, but the **** thing is NOT a 4 speed! actually a 3 speed on the column!
I didn't know you could get a K model with a 3 speed, but I guess the 4 speed was optional and the 3 speed on the column was the standard. Take a look and see what you think - its a project for sure, but has loads of potential

I need to find the two cut-out front caps for it (and for that matter, the non-cut out rear caps for clip type wheels too) and sure would appreciate you guys if you could help me find a mate - I will pay handsomely and even fork over a finders fee if you direct me to someone who sells me one. See example cap in the pics below. Also, if anyone has any of the 60-62 K Model dealer brochures to sell, I am searching for them too. Text or call 256 486 1988 with any leads - also want to find a 60-61 K1000 in a junkyard or stripped sitting in the woods or a field for a coupe items so tell me if you know where one of them is no matter how horrible condition too

Nice looking finds! Cecilia's a 3 on the tree too, so I guess that was standard. Seems like you see more 4 speeds in the later years.

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

Since posting this I have lucked into a 1961 K1000 which is more what I was looking for when I found this 62, so I am going to use the best of the two to make one and restore the 61 I think. I always liked that big hood better

You have a 61 and a 62 Short Wide Big Window 4x4? I find it hard to be friends now. I would fix them both up with parts from other trucks. At least one looks like custom cab or trim. Some people are just too lucky. I will have to drink this off.

Wow, what a find!!! Congrats. I just came across this 61 in Colorado. If I was still living there I would definitely be all over this one! https://pueblo.craigslist.org/cto/d/...854045207.html

I know! I saw that one and debated buying it but I knew if I was patient I could end up with a short bed which is better for me because I usually end up selling longbeds after a bit, and I want to keep this soon-to-be runner driver project. Seems like 99% of factory 4x4's are either longbeds 1/2 tons or 3/4 tons, and minus this 62 I found, 100% seem to be small back window. I have only seen two EVER anywhere with a big window but am dying to find out who in this group has any 60-62 K's or big window short fleets if any

Hahaha....close but no, the 61 is a short stepside w/ big window, but its roof has been ripped off and its so rusty its just too far gone to save as it sits, so since both trucks are identical minus the hoods I am considering using the 62's body and drivetrain to re-birth the 61 by swapping hoods basically (I like 60-61's best of all 60-66's) and make it run and drive etc until a nicer body reveals itself then I'll maybe breath life into the 62 at that time. Body parts and cabs come and go here at my house, so I can rebuild the pair over some time
