Default Tranny swap

If all goes well next weekend we'll finally get the trans swapped in my the '60. Day1 will be blocking up the rear of the engine, unbolting the bellhousing, and backing the hydramatic off of the block. Then we'll remove the flywheel and the flat plate and clean up the rear of the block.

Day two will be the installation of the flat plate, the flywheel and the gm adaptor/spacer for the 700R. If we have time, we'll bolt up the 7004 leave the the read of the trans supported so we can measure and create the rear cross member support out if 2" angle

For my Louisiana truck friends. The trans shop we had the 700R rebuilt at is called Acorn Transmissions, they are located in Amite, La. I dropped off the trans on Friday at 2pm and they rebuilt it and had it ready by Tuesday evening. They installed the new overdrive spring from Bowtie Overdrive I provided as well and will set the trans up after we install. (I'll have it towed back to the shop to have the TV cable properly I stalled and set. They also provided me with a large transmission cooler at no charge (Hayden 1405 model). I cannot say enough good things about this shop. Excellent communication, and service. When I dropped off the trans they took to the to open her up then and there to show me it needed a full rebuild. Explained the process and even provided the paint for it.

Because I'm putting the 700R and my truck was not setup with one by the OEM, I have to install a new overdrive spring and TV cable plate. Bowtie OD make a easy to install kit including the spring, the carb base plate and the TV cable. The issues I'll have is AFTER I install everything, add the trans fluid, shift linkage, dip stick/filler tube, etc. I'll have to have her towed back to the trans shop for them to speck in the shifting times so I don't cause any damage to the trans.

I've never done this before, so it going slow.

The spring goes in the bottom of the trans, and controls the position that allows the trans to shift into overdrive and stay there, until you slow down enough . That way the trans won't kick in and out of OD. Let me find a picture and I'll post it.

thank's for the pics. now i see, the spring goes in the throttle valve, or tv cable valve. now it makes sense. i have seen this mod before, sometimes comes with new valve lineup as well. over cycling of the tcc, and shifting in and out of overdrive, builds alot of heat, the spring should help alot.
