Default Shifter boot for sm420s

Am I correct into thinking there was no boot that was OEM? I know there is a insulator pad between the transmission and trans hump, but did the factory place a boot on top on 64s? If not what year did they start?
Thanks,

Steve

Yep. My dad's '63 never had a boot. Being as that's what I grew up with, I thought boots kind of looked odd when I first started seeing them!

Thanks,

As many of you may remember, my Dad bought a one ton panel new in 1965 and converted it into a long Suburban. As you can see in this photo, it has a shifter boot. What I don't know is whether it was a factory item, or if it was something Dad added.
