Default 1966 GMC 1500 Custom Farm Find

New member here and thought I would introduce you to my 1966 GMC truck "Maynard".

Maynard was found sitting in a field in the back 40 in Snohomish, WA. Maynard was parked in 1999 and was forgotten until I spotted his shiny chrome grill. Tires were flat, breaks were frozen solid, he was covered in green algae and had resident mice living in the glove box. My husband, who visited the farm to purchase a tractor, thought I was crazy when I told him were were taking Maynard home.

We winched his locked up tires up onto our trailer and I pressure washed him right away. My husband humored me and we had him running for the first time in 20 years. If you'd like to see Maynard start-up for the first time click here.

Now after weeks of cleaning and running around to various parts stores and great shopping on eBAY, Manyard is ALMOST ready for his maiden voyage.

Maynard has received the following:
  • Complete tune-up including fluids
  • New gas tank
  • New brakes, lines and master cylinder
  • Rebuilt carburetor
  • New wheels and tires
  • New shocks
  • Repainted inside the cab
  • Headlight surrounds from the nice man on eBay
  • LOTS of love and cleaning, The mice have been rehomed!

More to come.

TODAY Maynard is starting to look amazing. Here are a few pics.

Great find and so happy to see another one living and breathing again! My daughter son-in-law and two grands live in Redmond. Beautiful country up there.

Welcome and such a great intro video Kymberly!

Thank you for sharing it and noting the GMC seatbelt buckles. it looks like a very nice find. Does it have the wood bed?

only in the pacific northwest (the land of plenty) could someone stumble over a 66 terrace blue custom, factory automatic truck in next to perfect condition just sitting covered in moss and dirt like that. It doesn't happen like that in Alabama anymore let me tell you! congratulations on a great find

Welcome to the forum, Kymberly! Your first post is well done -- lots of good info and good photos! Nice job cleaning up the truck and getting it running too.

I'm curious which engine and transmission Maynard has. The base automatic was the two speed Powerglide with the three speed Turbo Hydramatic 400 being the upgrade model first available in 1966. Likewise the 305E was the base V6 with the 351E becoming optional for the first time in 1966.

Keep up the good work!

Hiya, at one point Maynard had a wood bed but sadly sitting for 20+ years in the Pacific Northwest turned the wood to mush. I left the remains of what was once the wood bed in the field. I do hope to fashion a new wood bed for him as my next project.

Thanks so much for all the great support! I managed to piece together the build sheet that was tucked under the springs behind the seat. I believe Maynard has the 305E but how do I tell if he has the Powerglide or Turbo you mention?

The inside cab took a great deal of sanding and prep - I believe my hand went numb from the orbital - lol. I still need to work on the doors. Rust-oleum universal metallic paint and primer in one - color Champagne Mist. Looks really nice with the original bench seat.

My guess is the Powerglide because in the video I can Park, R, N, D, L. at about the 1:17 mark

I also blew up a section of your buildsheet that shows a RH door lock
and engine conversion(?)

Very Kool to have that buildsheet!
