Cool article on V-12's, transmission adapters
Happy Labor Day weekend everybody! Just saw this V-12 article and thought I would share it. It lists a company for transmission adapters I thought everyone would want to see. Enjoy! http://www.enginelabs.com/news/a-loo...ix-v12-engine/

Re: Cool article on V-12's, transmission adapters
Thanks for the link, Jeff.
I like to read the comments and discussion about the 12s. That's where I get the most enjoyment out of the two I've restored. It's amazing how many people never knew of their existance. I wonder why GMC never tried to improve their fuel consumption, but maybe engineering glitchs didn't allow it. I had a neighbor whose natural gas line had to be shut off for a few days, so he set a 1,000 gal propane tank for short term use. Consumption was 22 gal per hour on propane,--no typo. Most people around here believe fuel cost was their big downfall over all else. Other have said they thought GM built them too good, and they lasted too long. Another thing people notice and ask about is the distributor drive that runs a set of points, condenser, rotor, cap, and coil for each bank. It's fun to pull one coil wire off and it will run just fine on one bank of 6 cylinders like an in-line 6. I've never met anyone around here who used them for irrigation motors who had one bad word to say about their durability and longivity.

Re: Cool article on V-12's, transmission adapters
There is a big V-12 powered firetruck at a GMC dealership near me that I pass by occasionally when I'm at work. Last winter it disappeared and I got worried it might have met it's match. Looked like they had to spend a couple days getting it running or something as the cab was tilted up and then it disappeared. It reappeared about a month later with a shiny new paint job and the name of the dealership gold leaf lettered on the sides, it's a real show piece. Always good to know these things are still treasured.

Thats a pretty good article. I'd be interested to see how it turns out on the dyno.

Re: Cool article on V-12's, transmission adapters
I will try to do that! A year or so ago when I spotted it I couldn't help but gander at the underside of the truck. The dealership was closed but I wonder if they didn't have a camera watching the parking lot. If they did they probably had to wonder what the guy was doing laying on his backside gazing in wonder at the underneath of their firetruck! That's a huge oil pan

Re: Cool article on V-12's, transmission adapters
Ok took me a little while but I did manage to get some pictures of the firetruck, hope you enjoy! I tried to flip them all in Paint but the last one's still upside down, but you get the idea. The truck sits under the bright lights all night long right out front, these pictures were taken about 2 am
