I just qualified for this site. I bought a '66 step side a few days ago, now I get to have the fun of seeing what I can do with it. I don't have the skills that some of you have, so I'm going to have someone do the bodywork and painting for me. But I'm going to do what I can. Here's what I have to start with.

Re: New member
That's a beauty. Welcome to the fenderside club! You wanna see no skills? Check out my build thread under builds etc. and watch me bang on my fingers a few times. The good news is these trucks are tough so even with no skills you cant really mess them up too much. They fix right back up! Too the guys here will talk you through anything you're likely to run up against. They've all been there and done it before.

Re: New member
Nice truck Kepi. I can't tell for sure, but I like that shade of red on that body style. Is that a finished color or red oxide primer? Tons of information and expert help in this forum, and like FMP says, welcome to the Fenderside club! Bob C.

Re: New member
That's just primer. It has a long way until it's a finished project.

Re: New member
You got the V-6 under the bonnet?

Re: New member
Yep the V 6 is still there. The previous owner changed it from column shift to floor shift, but kept it three speed. I'm not sure if I should change it back, switch to a 4 speed transmission, or just leave it.

Re: New member
4 speeds are nice, esp if you can get an SM420 (granny low). Got some pics of the rest of the truck/engine/interior? I'm just about ready to button my my ride after 13 years.

Re: New member
Someone did the same thing to my fender side-put a floor shifter in. The braket broke every 6 months, even after I fabricated a new braket from 3/16 steel. It is parked now, with a M-21 4-speed waiting to go in, with Hurst shifter linkage.
