I'm heading out for Bend in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.
I am going to bring it home on the '66....expecting some dicey rds over and east of the Cascades, so it's a race to get over & back before it gets too fun.

And, yes....FTR, it will be a rather "full" load for the ol' '66.

Well, by the time I had her loaded, blocked and chained down, it was later in the day than I had hoped for.

No big deal...I was tired, wet and cold.....looking forward to a warm cab and a soft seat....so I headed for home.

Other than a few stops to check the load, things came off slicker than a whistle.
The '66 ran and drove as it should......What a GREAT old truck. Absolutely and definitely as fine a piece of equipment as any you can find on the road today. The '58 weighed in right at 10K lbs....and with the combined wind drag had to be quite a load for the '66.
Well, other than dropping a couple gears on the east side of mount Hood for the grade.....the '66 shined on like the day it rolled out of the Assembly Line. It certainly made that top heavy load seem like the daily grind.

Well here's the latest. Couple shots under the dash. Pretty seat sitting in my living room. Gauge panels are looking nice ready to go back in. I Can't Tell You Why the pictures are sideways.

Funny, I just read through this day before yesterday and wondered what the status was. That seat looks awesome. The pics are sideways because you took them sideways on an iphone. I had the same problem, so does gmcnut. You can open them and turn them before you upload them. Thats what I do.

I wish my seat looked that good! Springs are on my list of things to replace. Did you just order up a whole new one or have it rebuilt?

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

Looks like someone Chevied this poor old GMC! Any thoughts of going back to the original Pontiac V8?

The seat was in fine shape other than upholstery, soft parts and one small mouse nest. I stripped it down, welded a couple spring problems, replaced the baffles and refinished the framework. Took it to my buddy for the softwork and reupholstery. Not OE type fabric but perfect for me and Mace. He's my Boxer sidekick.

As a city owned truck I'm certain the 344 was "idled to death". They installed the crate motor sometime in the early seventies. It seems to run as it should and since I'll put it to work, I'm pleased with the 350. Only thing that could make me happier would be a big six.
Nice to talk to you guys.
I'll turn my camera sideways and snap some fresh pics in the next day or two.
