Default 1963 K1001 Left Rear Axle Shaft Part Reference

I'm looking for any part number or reference data on a stock replacement axle shaft for the left rear end. Local parts shop doesn't go back far enough and a direct call to dorman said they don't cover that far back either.

I'd prefer to get a new part, but I suppose the junk yard will work. Any help would be appreciated.

My 1960 had and axle in it with a junk yard marking of "63 GMC". So at least you know 60-63 will work. As you said, 30 spline. That type of thing is just what a salvage yard is for. You may have better luck on craigslist. It can be shipped fairly cheaply. When I was looking for a 3.92 D44, any D44 of that era was scarce. Start looking for a whole rear and see how cheap you can get one. I believe left and right axles are the same. What happened to your axle shaft? I know of a 63 GMC complete Diff for $200. If you ever found a "new" axle, it would probably be that much and with the whole diff you will get brake stuff and extra parts. (if it's still available)
It's possible a Chevy, Jeep or Ford axle may fit. Barry knows. Is it 30.5" long? Pressed on bearing and retainer? Bearing cover with 4 bolts?

That Company does have two shafts listed for D44. Not much info in their catalog on those two. I just got thru that HO35 vs D44 bit when rebuilding my D44. My 1960 GMC manual lists both. In Chevy there was a torque tube driveshaft til about 54, then a "dropout" HO open driveshaft diff till.....? My 1960 GMC has an original dated D44 30 spline 3.92 in it. The info you gave shows the axle shafts to be same left and right so that's good. 2X more available at the junk yard. All that mentioned is 10 bolt so you can't go by that. You have to know what 10 bolt someone is talking about.

Pass side axle tube and on the ring gear. Hard to see on tube, mine was rear facing. I guess we lost the Smoker.

I'm still here, having a hard time getting the overall length measurement with it being broken. Its a press on bearing with a 4 bolt cover.

The parts manual helps narrow it down. I'm pretty sure the right part # is 2402517 (which according to the gmpartswiki.com became # 02494739). Thanks for all the help,

I'll start hunting around now that I have someplace to start.

1960-68 gmc dana 44 same axles. Not really to hard to find. 61-74 international 1/2 ton works but the flange needs redrilled for 6 bolt pattern and the center hub turned down.
