Hub Help
Working on the front end (1960 GMC k1002). Not sure what the function of this part is or what it’s called (pic 1. part in my hand). It seems it is supposed to act as a spacer between the bearing and gear. It is missing on the passenger side. The gear seats in the same place with or without the piece. Is it needed? Anyone have a lead on one? Pic 2 & 3 are how the parts would stack in the assembly. Pic 4 is the same parts laying in sequence and pic 5 the full assembly in sequence.

Re: Hub Help
1. Nothing like that on my 1960 K1000.
2. Not shown in maintenance manual. Albeit they show factory front hub with no "free wheeling unit" installed, as they call the warn type hubs. 3. Assume it's not a bearing cup. That would have a taper. Guessing 1. PO mistake 2. Different WARN hub If you do not see any purpose for bearing sleeve or as a need spacer... or other, leave it off. Check it for any kind of wear or witness marks. Don't see it on the internet for Dana 44 WARN hubs. Last edited by AZKen; February 18th, 2021 at 05:51 AM. |

Re: Hub Help
Thanks Ken, that’s probably what I’ll do. Is your original manual different from the aftermarket LMC style ones? I was under the impression it had all the same info but as a compilation for the different years/models.

Re: Hub Help
Don't know what LMC sells, but if it covers 60-66 GMC and Chevy or some name like that, no, not the manual you want. There are year specific GMC Maintenance Manuals. There are some funky "Assembly Manuals" also, combining Chevy and GMC. Never needed one. You rarely need an Assembly Manual. The part numbers are no good anymore and you can see how truck goes together by looking at it and the 6066GMCCLUB will tell you anything you want to know or teach you how to figure it out yourself.
Genuine GMC manuals have an X-, 1960 has two manuals X-6003 which was a preliminary Manual printed in 1959. The other is X-6023 which covers 60 and 61. 1962 has X-6223. 1963 has only a supplement to 1962, it is X-6323. 1964 is a supplement X-6423 and 1965 is X-6523 not a supplement. I have X-6003, X-6023 and 1960 GMC "N" series Master Parts Book (X-160001). Mine are all original. There are reprints of some available. The X-6003 and the Master Parts book are hard to find. All the stuff I'm saying here is from the 6066GMCCLUB source pages. The Jolly legacy pages. Members teaching me, searching the net and working on GMC's. In the LMC fill in search box, Under GMC, they have a choice for C1000 and K1000. This is a typical error from vendors. There is no C1000. No C prefix designation for 60-66 GMC trucks. They assume same as Chevy. Should have read: 1000 and K1000. The only prefix designations are I, K, P, PB, G Last edited by AZKen; February 19th, 2021 at 10:12 AM. |
