New HEI Distributor
Hello all,
I'm new to the forum, but have been reading posts for some time. Thanks to all who contribute their time, knowledge and ideas. There is a vast amount of info here so forgive me if this has been covered.. I found a company on e-bay that custom makes HEI distributors out of billet aluminum for any engine, around $255 plus shipping. I recently installed one on my 305e '65 suburban. It fit perfectly, works great, one wire hook up(dont forget to replace the resistor wire). .The dist. comes complete with an adjustable vacuum advance, just use yor old gear. You can purchase a GM style plug for your old wire harness.I hope someone finds this info useful.

Re: New HEI Distributor
Good to know it fits and works well. I bought a cheapie from another company for an AMC motor and it gave me nothing but problems.

Re: New HEI Distributor
Since my 305 developed a tendency to stall and usually had to run with the choke out some, I've ordered this heidizzy distributor as well s a factory reman Holley 500.
Watch this space on how it goes... Buffalo, you brought up a resistor wire, and a GM style plug. Would you care to expand on that? I'm not sure what you are taking about/how it is involved in the HEI installation. Thanks

As far as a GM style plug I am guessing he means for the same wire we are speaking of and a tach lead. They are readily available from Summit, NAPA etc... |

Anyone have opinions on plug gapping with the 50K volts this unit has and an Accel 496 plug?

Re: New HEI Distributor
Thanks, Funky. I checked that out. It seemed to me that page probably concerned a stock HEI which spits out about 35,000V from mit's coil. I just wondered if maybe there was a better gap with the 50,000V this new unit puts out...
