Default 62 gmc

Hello everyone. New guy here. Picked up a 1962 gmc half ton long box fleetside. Has the original 235 inline 6 and 3 speed transmission. Previous owners have done some stuff and I will do more. Plans are to go over brakes and steering to make sure it is safe for the road, then work on little things as I go along. Try it out for the summer and if all goes well and I like it, I have a 327 sbc and turbo 350 transmission I could swap in. No rush as I have plenty of projects to keep me busy.

nice truck, pidder. Here in the lower 48, our trucks only had the GMC V6 engine, while the canadian versions carried chevrolet engines. Great looking sheet metal, paint and chrome. Take care of it mechanically, ant it will run forever.

Welcome to the forum, Pidder! As you may know, the Canadian GMCs of that era were more closely related to the US Chevy trucks than they were to the US GMC trucks. GMC light duty trucks sold in the US in 1962 came only with the 305 V6 engine. If someone in the US planned on replacing their V6 with a sbc 327 we'd give them a hard time. But since you're starting out with an inline 6, more power to you! Even better though would be to replace it with one of the V6s. Whatever you decide, keep us updated with more photos.

Blowing out the pic, I noticed the Instrument Cluster unlike 1962 US models had the 60-61 style carried over for 62.

thanks for the info. there is a guy here locally that actually has his v-6 for sale from a 60's gmc. Depending on how this inline 6 goes I may leave it in there. I trailored it home so haven't actutally driven it down the road yet. previous owner said it ran fine and got great mileage. I will go over it and seal up the oil leaks and give it a tune up along with setting the valves. I will have a better idea after that.

I just found a local ad for a 1971 chevrolet c10 frame and running gear. how hard to swap my body onto that and get the updated running gear. my frame is quite rusted.
