Default 1960 Ignition Switch

Howdy Folks, I've got a 1960 GMC half-ton pickup that I've been driving off and on for the past 15 years. About a month ago, it turned into a self-driving truck and tried to start itself while parked in my driveway. This happened after it had been sitting untouched for a few days, with nobody near the truck and no keys in the ignition. It bumped into the porch, and the battery died, ending the incident.

On investigation, I found the ignition switch felt sloppy and loose, and I'm looking for a new one. I found a switch for a 1962 model on LMC, but it doesn't match the plug in my 1960. The local parts houses don't have an ignition switch for a 1960. Can any of the great minds here suggest where I can find one?

Hello and welcome Heyitstillruns!

Here is what my 61 is using and the blade arrangement.

Does your look like this?

The part book lists it as number 1116545. Other numbers that match are

1116594, 95, 1116604 as well as Delco Remy D1418, 1428, 1430.

I have an old eBay purchase of an AMPCO SWITCH # LS 482 that matches up too.

These are numbers I have run on eBay, and they turn up on occasion but are pricey.

Again, these are numbers and links that show what would fit my 61 but may not fit yours, if blade arrangement is different.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi Funky,

Yes, that's the one I have! Thank you very much for the part numbers.

Man, you're not lying about this part being pricey. That's $100 more than the '62 switch.
