Powerflo/powerglide Question
 

I have been reading in a Motors Truck& diesel manual, that on the Powerglide torque converter to flexplate hookup that there are marks that time these two things together, for balancing. Am I reading this right? I bolted mine together and never seen any marks and am wondering if it is right. Anybody know about this. Thanks, Dave

Both the 305 and 351 engines are internally balanced so there is no eccentric weight on the flywheel or flex plate as well as the front pulley, in fact there is no harmonic balancer or damper up front rather just a flanged hub that the pulley bolts to. There is an alignment procedure though. According to the factory GMC Truck Overhaul Manual on page 49 here is the procedure: Locate flywheel, flex plate, and reinforcing plate at crankshaft flange with bolt holes aligned. Be sure the letter "R" on flex plate and on reinforcing plate (fig 69) is toward rear as shown. Note: The letter "R" is located adjacent to offset hole in flex plate

:headscratch: I guess my question is more a powerglide specific question than a V6 question. In the Motors manual for the GMC V6 with Powerglide and in a 1967 Chevrolet C-10-60 chassis manual on all moters , on the Powerglide only it says: Through the flywheel cover opening align as closely as possible the"White" flywheel balance mark stripe and the "blue" painted stripe on the end of converter cover and housing. if scribed during removal, align scribe marks on fly wheel and converter cover. Install converter to flywheel attaching bolts etc. That is what has me wondering. Thanks, Dave
