Default Re: Question about starters

I almost had to do that when the starters weren't available a couple of years ago.

The ones that are available now are for 61-65. I guess you are calling them short nose? but according to the catalogs... 66 something changed.

When I was doing research to rebuild mine the plan was to use a big bock starter and swap the guts. Glad to see you got your issue solved.

Thanks. I called them shortnose because it seems they use a shorter starter nosepiece, hence the term. Possibly they switched to the longer nose in '66.

Those WAI 4038N starters seem to use the longer nose and are high torque from the get go. A good solution if you need a new starter I think.

Mines working great in my 63 so far. They are just about out of stock, so if someone needs one.. now get it now before they are all gone again. Who know when the next batch will be made?

The same starter that fits the 305-401 also fits the 2-bolt mounting for the chev 366-427 thru the mid 70's napa p/n 246-4078
