So, searching the web I find this great deal seemingly, but alas too far and no space. I am sharing what info I received from the owner and hope another member closer, may benefit and save it.
CL ad says GMC V6, with 5 speed transmission. It's blue faded paint; A replacement block (?!?). No engine size listed and the Price; $50!! One of those "Ran-when-pulled" but, the V6 is indestructible, right?" I reach out and get more photos and info. Seller text that it came out of a Consolidated Freightliner truck with 5 and 4 (?). I don't know what 5 and 4 refers too. Looks like it might be a magnum, from what I can see of the carb base. He sends me a photo that has the part number on the intake. Here is info from the Previous Forum Posts from Pete Chronis; --- peternchronis wrote: > > The correct part number that's cast on a trapezoid manifold is 2471332, it's > very easy to identify the trapezoid carburetor mounting base that's wider in > the front and narrower in the back compared to a 305 to 351C base that's > rectangular and smaller at that. I wasn't aware there were two Trapezoidal Intake manifolds with one being non-magnum. Great info thanks Pete. This engine has the Intake part numbered "2424179 for the 60-65 401 to 478 engines also have the trapezoid base but > smaller ports and you don't want that one" Seller says he did not think there was a number on the engine pad area where I asked him to look. He was going to check again later. Few days later I get a text back. He says the pad reads, 401M!!!! I asked for photo and its confirmed. Photos say it all. I do not vouch for the seller or engine condition, but it seems like a terrific deal to me. I submit this to the club so that hopefully it can be rescued and put back into a truck. Seller was very easy to deal with and gave all photos I requested. I think he just wants it gone. $50 for a 401M would be a tremendous bargain for somebody! Even if you had to pay for it to be crated and shipped, it would still be a good deal. Someone definitely needs to save this hard-to-find engine.
By the way, Henry, 5 and 4 refer to the two transmissions. That's how over=the-road trucks get 20 gear ratios.

Hi Ed, so I’m guessing it could have magnum heads, maybe; and they bolted that “other” trapezoid intake on it.
I guess only way to verify is to remove an exhaust manifold? Or are you able to tell by the exhaust manifolds? Thanks you for clarifying the 5 and 4. Either way, yes it’s, Such a Deal!

Since it's a 401M, and not a 401, it most likely still has its original magnum intake and exhaust manifolds on it.

The part number on the intake Manifold read as the other non-magnum variety that Pete referred too.
