Default Strange part cylinder head

Hello

I ‘am replacing a burned exhaust valve at the moment and discovered something strange inside one of the front holes inside of the 305E cylinder head.
There is a piece of metal inside one of the holes on I don’t where it used for. I can pull it out for some length or push it back.
See attached pictures.

Can someone tell me what the purpose of the is?

Over the years I've torn down quite a few GMC V6's and have never come across anything like this. It appears to look like a welding rod, possibly someone may have worked on the engine years back and dropped it in there accidently. It doesn't belong there so just leave it out when reassembling.

Pieces from when the heads were cast. I have been involved in the Automotive Machine Shop business off and on for over 50 years and have seen these sort of items over the years, just remove what you can and go on from there.
